KARGIL JANUARY 31, 2021: Deputy Commissioner and CEO, LAHDC, Kargil Baseer ul Haq Choudhary inaugurated the 13th edition of the CEC Ice Hockey Championship at Ice Hockey Rink near Khree Sultan Chow Sports Stadium Biamathang here today.

Superintendent of Police (SP), Kargil Anayat Ali Choudhary, District Youth Services and Sports Officer (DYSSO) Kargil Muhammad Hussain Rehnuma, other district officers, officers and officials of Youth Services and Sports Department Kargil and media persons were present during the inaugural ceremony.

The DC in his address said that keeping in view the potential of Kargil as an ideal winter sports destination and the inclination and talent of youngsters in ice hockey and other winter games, the LAHDC and the District Administration Kargil are taking concrete measures and making all out efforts to provide suitable opportunities to these young players to exploit and showcase their sporting skills.

Underlining the importance of traditional games viz a viz winter games which have great potential to boost tourism sector in the district, the DC stressed the DYSSO Kargil to initiate necessary measures for promotion of traditional games under Khelo India.

Baseer said that a blend of winter games and traditional games can be an ideal opportunity for Kargil to attract players from outside as well as tourists to the district which will in turn go a long way in enhancing people’s economy.

Making mention of the measures for development of ice hockey and other winter games in the district, the DC said that all out support be it infrastructure, equipments and other facilities would be provided to the Department of Youth Services and Sports Kargil so that the level of winter games in the district is improved further.

The DC urged the youngsters to work sincerely towards pursuing their career goals and welfare of the people, and said that tomorrow it is only them who have to shoulder the responsibility to make Kargil progressive and prosperous. He also urged the ice hockey players and clubs to come forward and said that they would be extended every possible support so that they can prove their mettle not only at the district but the UT, national as well as international level events.
