Bandipora, Jan 31: Deputy Commissioner Bandipora Dr Owais Ahmad on Sunday inaugurated the Intensified Pulse Polio Immunization (IPPI) Programme during which thousands of children under the age of 5 years were administered anti-polio vaccine to protect them against the crippling disease.

DC Bandipora, inaugurated IPPI programme by administering drops to a child at District Hospital Bandipora. Chief Medical Officer Dr Bashir Ahmad, Deputy Chief Medical Officer Dr Parveiza, Medical Superintendent and staff members of DH were present on the occasion.

DDC informed that the anti-polio drive was carried out in the district today in which about 62000 children upto 5 years of age were administered polio vaccines. He said 340 vaccination centres were established in the district including in snow bound Gurez Valley with a deployment of officials of different departments. Besides, mobile transit teams along with supervisory staff and collaboration of teachers and Anganwadi Workers were engaged for proper execution and monitoring of the immunization process.

DC also appealed to the general public to participate enthusiastically in the immunization Programme and bring their children in the age group 0-5 years for administering polio drops.
