Ganderbal 18 July (KNZ):Authorities of Jammu and Kashmir Rural Development Department deployed 1058 sanitary workers for cleaning toilets and lifting garbages from Baltal route this year

The department has also installed more than 700 toilets at baltal base camp which will save the river and whole ecosystem of the area

When Kashmir News Zone-KNZ Contacted ACP Ganderbal Bilkees Jan (Nodal officer sanitation plan Baltal) who briefed about the zero land fill yatra.She told that Rural sanitation department has made all planning for pollution and garbage free yatra.

She said we have collected more than 10 tons of garbage every day from langers and tents from Baltal Base camp to Holy cave.The garbage is segregated and disposed off scientifically.

She said ,the Department of Rural Sanitation has procured 3 compost machines, comprising of 400kg capacity.The machines make compost of the organic waste which is used for manure.

The mission of Rural Development Department is to protect water, mountains, glaciers as well as make this an example of ideal pilgrimage.

The department has also procured shredder and Baily machines,for making shreds of plastic waste.

Department has outsourced one agency namely Swahha from indoor, who are processing organic waste into compost through their manual shredders which are making 2-3 tons of compost every 8hrs and storeing it into the compost beds which after 15-20 days becomes manure.

However, Yatries are being screened for polythene bags and are given cloth bags for plastic free yatra.

The agency has also installed solar cookers which facilitates hot water for Yatries.

The number of pilgrims this year is also expected to be twice the average,she added.KNZ
