Overflow in an irrigation canal has caused damage to a road stretch near Haidermaidan:Officials

Ganderbal 18 July (KNZ):overflow in an irrigation canal for the past two years has caused damage to a road stretch from Haidermaidan to Tawheed Aabad in Ganderbal District

According to locals, the overflow in the “old Ari irrigation canal” for the last two years resulted in damage to the road stretch on Chappergnd Gutlibagh road.

They said that the overflow water due to encroachment of irrigation canal namely old Ari Canal for an average of 200 mtrs which results overflow of water on road surface.

Locals said that it was unfortunate that despite repeated requests the authorities were unmoved to solve the problem and requested to all three departments to coordinate and have joint operation in this regard so that the problem will solve.

“The Irrigation department, R&B and Power Development Corporation (PDC) have all been caught napping on this issue,” said a local

Now Executive Engineer R&B Ganderbal have written to Executive Engineer I&FC Ganderbal “It’s requested that a team of Engineers be duputed at site for demarcation of “Old Ari Canal irrigation” near Haidermaidan Junction as the water flows continuously over the road and restoration of the same at an earliest so that the Mecadamisation work shall be carried with out any hindrence, otherwise 200mtr of road shall be kept with held till the intending department restores the original position of said irrigation canal

The locals have urged the district administration, I&FC and JKPDC to redress their grievance as soon as possible.

When Kashmir News Zone-KNZ contacted field engineer Hilal Ahmad he said mecadamisation work on Chappergund Gutlibagh road in comming days

He also said we have written to I&FC Ganderbal to demarcation of irrigation canal as the water flows continuously over the road surface

When Kashmir News Zone-KNZ contacted Executive Engineer Irrigation and Flood Control Ganderbal Ajaz Keen,he said we are not received any letter from R&B department and assured will look into the matter.KNZ
