Srinagar : Asma Bhat, a Bachelor of Journalism student, is embarking on a mission to safeguard the cultural and traditional foods of Kashmir. With a fervent desire to uphold the essence of Kashmiri cuisine, Asma is dedicated to preserving a variety of traditional delicacies.

In her endeavor, Asma aims to revive the art of preparing traditional foods such as Pickle, Corn Bread (Makki Ki Roti), sweet pumpkin infused with milk and dry fruits, and kashmiri cultural dishes like feare haakh(smoked fishes),dried vegetable dishes. She recognizes the significance of these foods in Kashmiri culture and is determined to ensure that they remain cherished by future generations.

Reflecting on the changing culinary landscape, Asma highlights the impact of modernization and western influences on traditional food practices. She emphasizes the need to revitalize these age-old recipes to preserve the rich heritage of Kashmiri cuisine.

“The traditional cuisine Wazwan still holds prominence, but many other traditional food items are gradually losing their popularity,” says Asma. “Through my efforts, I aim to revive these forgotten treasures and instill an appreciation for our culinary heritage among the younger generation,” she added.

In addition to her culinary pursuits, Asma has leveraged social media to promote her cause and facilitate online orders. With a blend of passion and determination, she envisions a future where the flavors of Kashmir’s rich past continue to captivate palates and preserve cultural identity.
