Baramulla, August 02: As part of the nationwide sanitation programme “ Swachh Bharat Mission”, an awareness workshop was today organized under the theme “ one step towards sanitation”  at Sherwani Hall Baramulla which marked the participation of huge gathering of civil society members, students and other prominent citizens of the District. Programme was organized by Directorate of Urban Local bodies during which various components regarding the programme were presented depicting the need and importance of hygineness.
On the occasion, an Inter school Quiz competition was organized in which 4 school teams namely Wullar, Jhelum, Mansar and Manasbal participated. However, team Wullar was declared the winner while as team Manasbal as the runner up of the competition among which commendation prizes were distributed for their felicitation.
Speaking on the occasion Director Urban Local Bodies Riyaz Ahmad Wani complimented all the participating students and said that basic aim should be disseminated among the common masses. He said that the programme will be organized across the state and in this regard Baramulla was chosen as the first district as the district owes the prominent place in the state.
While highlighting the significance of the programme the Director said that different components under SBM viz Soild waste management programme, individual and community toilet system etc are afoot which would have positive consequences on our environment. However he sought the public cooperation and urged people in maintaining our planet green and clean. Moreover emphasis was laid on behavioral change and positive attitude towards our environment.
Meanwhile the director had a patient hearing of the grievances of the people during which he directs the concerned for cleaning the drainage system in the town. He also said that community toilets will be constructed at Showket Ali stadium and Old town Baramulla as the said is the persistent demand of the people. The director also announced the installation of traffic signals in Main Chowk and Azadgunj Baramulla which will ease the traffic conjunction and will ensure hassle free movement of the people.
Earlier, a marathon was led by the director in which large number of students, Beopar Mandal representatives, civil society members, employees of Municipality, traders and other sections of the society, holding banners on which different slogans and themes of the programme were written.
Among others ADDC  Baramulla , JDP , Dy Director ULB, Tehsildar Baramulla and other concerned EOs were present in the workshop.
