Ganderbal 29 Jan (KNZ):Dozens villages in Ganderbal district is reeling under acute water shortage,forcing villagers to drink contaminated water.

According to locals, water pipelines are damaged and authorities have not taken any effort to repair them.

“They should repair the pipelines immediately and provide the villagers with clean drinking water,” a local sarpanch appealed

A local Sarpanch Nisar Ahmad also said they had approached the Jal Shakti department Ganderbal many times and received assurance of getting the water supply soon “but no step has been taken by them in this matter so far”.

Residents also said authorities failing to upgrade infrastructure of Wayil-Wuder pilot water supply scheme and water reservior at Gutlibagh

The villages which are affected are Wayil-Wuder,Babawayil,Gutlibagh,Chanahar A,B ,Banjar Basti, Naya-Basti and Chanmohalla etc

The local residents said the pumping station has no facility of standby power supply.There is need of generator to keep the station working continuosly 24*7.Some time power supply remains off for days together and the station remains defunct.Which causes immense problem to people.

A local residents said “water supplied to the villages is untreated water which makes us a valunrable to diseases.The reservoir is without roof.The water in the reservoir can be contiaminated easily.”

“There is no water supply in our village, taps and water pipes have dried up.Authorities should do something in order to provide clean drinking water in our villages.

They Appealed higher authorities to look into the matter.KNZ
