Srinagar 24 March : Kashmir valley is observing a shutdown in response to the call given by Joint Resistance Leadership comprising of Syed Ali Shah Geelani, Mirwaiz Umar Farooq and Mohammad Yasin Malik against centre’s decision to ban Yasin Malik led JKLF.

All shops and business establishments in most of the towns remained closed while as public transport remained off the roads. Movement of private vehicles were seen plying in Srinagar. The reports of shutdown were also received from Northern and Southern Kashmir.

On Friday evening, ministry of home affairs imposed ban on Jammu Kashmir Liberation Front ( JKLF ) for five years and the party was blamed for doing anti-national activities in the valley.

The chief of JKLF, Mohammad Yaseen Malik was booked under Public Safety Act on March 7 this year. JKLF is second group that has been banned in last less than a month for doing anti-country activities. Jamaat-e-Islami Jammu and Kashmir was earlier banned for five years by MHA.

It’s believed that crackdown on separatists, ban on Jamaat-e-Islami, Jammu Kashmir Liberation Front and arrest of religious cleric is because of upcoming elections.
