Ganderbal 14 Jan:Amongst various social evils, drug abuse by misguided youth is a major concern spreading like wild fire. In our society all sections have to work conjointly and save youth from the clutches of engulfing drug menace.

J & k Police has adopted multi-pronged strategies to fight war against narco terrorism, syndicates of drugs, drug peddlers and consumers. In this regard, Ganderbal Police today organised series of events for bringing awareness amongst younger generations and the community as a whole.

One mega rally organised by Police by roping in NGO’s like “White Globe” & “Shugul” and students from different schools I.e RP school, Vijay Memorial School, New Dreamland school, Tiny Hearts, Angels Care Public School Safapora along with members of civil society. The rally started from Darend Ganderbal to main chowk Beehama, T-Chowk and further upto District Police Lines Tulmulla, Ganderbal.

The participated enthusiastically raised their voice for seeking help from all sections of society to save children from drug menace.

After the culmination of rally a colourful cultural program was organised at District Police Lines Ganderbal where a Gazal maestro Sh. Waseem Khan mesmerized the participants. One skit was presented by the professionals of Information Department against drug abuse which Bashir Kootur and his group.

During the event students of RP school also presented their thoughts on this topic. Experts of Medical field i.e; Dr Umar Jaan- MD Psychiatrist, Dr Afshaan a clinical Psychiatrist also gave their thought provoking presentation.

Besides a medical camp was also organised at DPL in which participants from different areas of Ganderbal joined for their medical examination with regard to psychological disorders, depressions and were consulted by a team of experts.

It is worth mentioning during last one year Ganderbal Police has registered 38 cases under NDPS Act with the arrest of 63 persons for their involvement in drug peddling and consumption.

There are 05 criminals who were not mending their ways, have been placed under Preventive detention as per proceedings of NDPS Act after obtaining detention orders from Divisional Commissioner Kashmir.

Police during one last year have organised 18 rallies 23 awareness camps and 25 village to village programs to bring awareness as well as to seek co-operation in controlling spread of drug menace.

The prominent persons who attended these mega events including SSP Ganderbal Shri Khalil Ahmad Poswal-JKPS, DySP HQRs Ganderbal, DySP PC Ganderbal, DySP DAR Ganderbal, SDPO Kangan, Sheikh Saba and Junaid from White Globe, District Information Officer, Sh. Mohd Arif,ARTO Ganderbal, Social welfare officer.

The program ended with the speech and vote of thanks by SSP Ganderbal Shri Khalil Ahmad Poswal-JKPS, who also distributed mementos and prices amongst the participants.
