GANDERBAL | 24th July 2025:In a determined effort to curb drug abuse and eliminate its root causes, Ganderbal Police today carried out a large-scale operation to destroy wild cannabis (bhung) cultivation in the Treesa area and its adjoining villages, falling under the jurisdiction of Police Station Safapora.
The anti-drug drive was conducted under the directions of SSP Ganderbal Shri Khalil Ahmad Poswal (JKPS) and was led on the ground by the SHO PS Safapora along with a dedicated team of police personnel. Notably, local youth also joined the campaign, highlighting increasing community awareness and support in the fight against narcotics.
The operation targeted vast patches of wild cannabis growth, which are often used illegally for drug production and consumption. Police teams, assisted by community volunteers, uprooted and destroyed the narcotic plants as part of this zero-tolerance initiative.
This campaign is part of Ganderbal Police’s broader strategy to create a drug-free environment by targeting both illegal supply sources and raising public consciousness.
Authorities have urged the public to remain vigilant and report any illegal cultivation of cannabis or poppy in their surroundings. Ganderbal Police has assured that strict legal action will be taken against landowners or individuals found involved in such activities.
