Ops on, two militants believed to be trapped, lights installed, Cordon layers tightened: Officials, Internet suspended in district as precautionary measure

Anantnag, Mar 10: An encounter in underway in in Kandipora village of Bijbehara belt in South Kashmir’s Anantnag district where two militants are believed to be trapped, officials said Wednesday.

A senior police officer told news agency—Kashmir News Observer (KNO), that two militants are believed to be trapped and the operation is underway. “Exchange of firing is on from both sides, though intermittently,” he said. “Militants are being offered surrender. Let’s see whether they accept the offer.”

The officer said: “we have installed lights in view of the darkness and the operation may remain on a hold for the night. Cordon layers have been tightened to ensure militants don’t flee,” he said.

He said that a joint team of Police, army’s 3 RR and CRPF launched a cordon and search operation on specific information about the presence of militants in the area.

“As the joint team of forces zeroed in on the suspected spot, the hiding militants fired at the forces triggering an encounter,” he said. Meanwhile, authorities have snapped the internet services in Anantnag district as a precautionary measure—(KNO)
