GANDERBAL, AUGUST 15: District Development Commissioner (DDC), Ganderbal Shafqat Iqbal unfurled the National Flag to the tune of National Anthem and took the salute at the 74th Independence Day function being celebrated at Gadoora Stadium, Ganderbal here today.
In his address, while congratulating the people of Ganderbal, DDC lauded the importance of Independence Day celebration and highlighted the various developmental achievements registered by district administration in different sectors in the district besides implementation of welfare schemes as on 74th Independence Day.
Highlighting the development in education sector in the district which is key to prosperity, DDC said that 3 more Govt. Women colleges are coming up in the district at Ganderbal, Gund and Wakura for which land is already identified. Besides, Govt. Architecture College at Safapora is also approved which will be constructed at 100 kanals of land, he added.
To give flip to the developmental activities in the district, the DDC said that under Languishing project scheme, 73 projects are being approved to the tune of Rs 206.92 core besides work on several other projects under different departments is also in full swing.
Terming the road connectivity as pivotal for development, the DDC said that macadamization of roads in district is in full swing besides widening on Pandach-Beehama road has resumed and several bottle necks are being removed in the town to streamline the traffic in the district.
Highlighting the implementation and achievements in centrally sponsored Flagship programme, DDC said district Ganderbal has done remarkable work in implementation of schemes like PM-Kissan, Ayushman Bharat, PMSYM, PMAY, Deen Dayal Upadhyaya Gram Jyoti Yojna, KCC and others.
He said under PMAY 257 houses are being constructed till June 2020 besides under 14th FC, 2453 works are at different stages of construction in the district. Similarly, Rural Development Department has spent Rs 11.50 crore on 1844 works under MGNREGA in current financial year.
In his speech, the DDC also highlighted the initiatives taken by the District Administration in containment of COVID-19 infection in the district. He also thanked people of the district for their cooperation who followed the guidelines related to COVID-19 and urged the people to flow the SOPs like social distancing and wearing face masks till this pandemic is eradicated.
DDC said that under Back to Village I, 137 works have been approved among which 61 works are completed besides under BTV2, 877 works of public importance are identified which are sent to higher authorities for further course of action.
Highlighting the role of PRIs in development and implementation of schemes, the DDC said that the District Administration has transferred funds in the accounts of Sarpanches under 14th FC besides funds will be provided to BDC chairpersons for the development of their respective blocks.
The function concluded with distribution of prizes among Covid Warriors and students who excelled in different fields.
The event was witnessed by District and Sessions Judge, Mohammad Yousuf Wani, SSP, Ganderbal Khalil Ahmad Poswal, President Municipal Council Ganderbal, Advocate Altaf Ahmad, ADC, Farooq Ahmad Baba, BDC Chairpersons, Sarpanchs, Panchs besides various other officers and officials from Police and District Administration.
