PDI aims at recording Development scenario of Villages, identify week areas


BANDIPORA, JUNE 29: The District administration Bandipora Monday launches Dashboard for Panchayat Development Index aiming at monitoring the development at grass root level by recording different indictors of development  besides evaluating impact of centrally sponsored schemes in Panchayats.
The Dashborad was inaugurated by District Development Commissioner Bandipora Ravinder Kumar in a function organized by District Administration  and has been  prepared by Joint Director Planning Imtiyaz Ahmad . G A Qureshi , former DG Economics and Statistics J&K was Guest of honour on the occasion. The function was attended by the District Officers, PRI Functionaries, Media fraternity& University scholars etc.
Speaking on the occasion, DC Bandipora said the dashboard is now live under title of “http//:realchangersbandipora.com”. He said the index will capture movement in Development at grass root level and shall also evaluate impact of centrally sponsored schemes in Panchayats. He said the dashboard shall monitor the indicators of development in each Panchayat that will give the overview of the growth rate in a particular Panchayat and shall give the overview of the development scenario . He said the PDI will help the government in identifying the week areas where the government needs extra care  to fill the gaps and hence will be important for  focused development in the villages. He said there are 81 outcome indicators spread over six thematic areas of Health & Nutrition, Education, Agriculture and Allied, Skill & Self Employment, Financial inclusion and Basic infrastructure with suitable weightage. 
Lauding the efforts of Joint Director Planning Imtiyaz Ahmad and his team for the pioneering work, DC Bandipora said the index is applicable to all Panchayats across the country and is believed to prove a vital tool for rapid transformation of Panchayats. He said the index will capture movement in Development at grass root level and will also evaluate impact of centrally sponsored schemes in Panchayats.
Joint Director Planning Imtiyaz Ahmad who is the brain behind developing the PDI said  its first of its kind index in J&K.  During his presentation he stated that there is a large vacuum with regard to important statistical research in J&K and not much has been done so far. 
He said the Project has been segmented into two phases’ including preparation and launch of index and making of online Dashboard for data entry and analytical reporting. He said the Phase-I has been completed earlier this year and in phase-II the dashboard has been prepared by a technical team. He said the administration will ensure capacity building of BDC chairpersons and Sarpanchs by sensitizing them about the key areas of development including health, education, agriculture and skill.
Ex Director General Economics and Statistics GA Qureshi while speaking on the occasion said strengthening of Panchayats will ensure overall development of the country. He further added that only right statistics forms basis of robust planning and Govt should strengthen statistics and planning cadre to its maximum for providing impetus to right development. “Statistics receives top priorities in developed countries and for J&K to prosper the services of Planning and statistics personnel be used efficiently and optimally”.
