Srinagar, Nov 21 (KNO): The authorities on Monday exhumed body of a baby to conduct DNA after a family from Budgam district alleged that they were given body of a female baby instead of male baby at JVC also known as SKIMS Bemina.

An official told the news agency—Kashmir News Observer (KNO) body of the baby was exhumed today in order to conduct DNA sampling and match that with those of the family members.

“Since family has levelled allegation against the hospital authorities for swapping their baby it was decided to exhume the body to conduct DNA so that truth shall come to fore,” he said.

The official said that body was exhumed in the presence of a medical team from JVC, family members and some independent witnesses.

Notably, last week a family from Patlibagh area Budgam had alleged that they were given body of a female baby instead of male baby.

Following the allegations a forensic team including four doctors was constituted to exhume the body and conduct DNA sampling. An official told KNO that the DNA mapping of both the female baby and the family that has leveled allegations, will take place in a few days and the final report is expected to arrive within a fortnight. “In some cases, the DNA report takes three to 12 weeks depending upon the laboratory conducting the test,” the official said—(KNO)
