MP Ladakh stresses on cultural preservation, underlines relevance of traditional foods in present times  

KARGIL, JANUARY 27, 2021:  As a part of the ongoing Zanskar Winter Sports and Youth Festival 2021, an ethnic food festival was held at Munskit Chumik Zanskar here today. 

Member of Parliament (MP) Ladakh Jamyang Tsering Namgyal was the chief guest on the occasion.

Nominated Councillor Stanzin Chosgail chaired as special guest while Sarpanch Ufti Pibiting Lobzang Dolma was the guest of honor.

Sub Divisional Magistrate (SDM) Zanskar Sonam Dorjay and other sub divisional officers were also present on the occasion. 

Speaking on the occasion, the chief guest MP Ladakh Jamyang Tsering Namgyal urged the people of Zanskar to preserve and protect the traditional customs and traditions to attract more tourists in the region. 

Underlining the importance of traditional foods which are wholly unaltered, organic and rich in nutrients and have also a long history of supporting health and wellness, the MP appreciated the local women’s organizations for having made great efforts in putting up an exquisite display of varied ethnic food items.

The MP also spoke about the popularity that Zanskar sub division has got during this winter due to the Zanskar Winter Sports and Youth Festival, 2021 and expressed optimism that the holding of this festival in the sub division will prove a harbinger of tourism promotion in the area which will enhance people’s economy.

Seven teams comprised of Ama Tsogspa Pibiting, Ama Tsogspa Padum, Ama Tsogspa Ruk Ruk, Ama Tsogspa Karsha, Ama Tsogspa Ufti, Ama Tsogspa Khisharak, and Muslim Ama Tsogspa Padum exhibited various ethnic food items and traditional utensils. 

The teams also exhibited local chula and the process of making various foods. And also served food to the gathering.
