Qazigund, Sep 12 (KNO): Eight years after Qazigund (the gate way of Kashmir) was elevated as Tehsil, the office is functioning from an old Niabat building with insufficient space causing inconvenience to officials as well as public. The building has four rooms comprising offices of Tehsildar, Naib Tehsildar and the rest for subordinates.

Residents of the area told news agency—Kashmir News Observer (KNO), that Qazigund was upgraded to territorial Tehsil in 2014 but the Tehsil office is functioning out of an old building with space crunch. They said that people of the area are facing problems especially during erratic weather conditions.

Ajaz Bhat, a local resident told KNO that electric wires are dangling low in front of the office posing risk to people waiting outside the office.

An employee pleading anonymity said that they are facing a lot of problems due to space shortage and are unable to cater to the people of about 20 villages.

He said that authorities are well aware about the issue but no steps are being taken in this regard.

Locals said that there is state land available at many places along the national highway in the area and authorities can construct new buildings there.

Tehsildar Qazigund, Muneer Khan said they are identifying land for Tehsil office and a residential quarter. “After digitization, we will send the papers to higher ups”, he said.

Deputy Commissioner Anantnag Dr Basharat Qayoom assured he will look into the matter—(KNO)
