Pattan 18 Aug : Police on Saturday registered a formal case against the management of SSM College of Engineering and Technology for exploiting the students to settle their score with a private party.

The College is located at Parihaspora Pattan area in North Kashmir.

Reports said that SSM College owner availed the services of students to cut down trees on a piece of disputed land.

Reports added that there is a land dispute between the owner of SSM College and incumbent legislator Imran Ansari. SSM College owner Shabir Ahmed alleged that Ansari family along with Forces personnel emerged in the college and thrashed students. “A number of students sustained injuries after Ansari family attacked them and when students retaliated police fired tear-smoke shells on them,” he said and claimed that students were busy in classes when men sent by Ansari family created havoc in the college.

Chairperson SSM College Pattan Dilafroza Qazi told CNS that police resorted to tear-smoke shelling without any reason and justification. “The pictures that are viral on social media speak themselves and prove how police acted partially and targeted students.”

She said that FIR lodged by police is uncalled for and it has been registered under political pressure.

Irfan Ansari brother of MLA Imran Ansari refuted the allegations that his men resorted to hooliganism. He said the owners of SSM College want to grab the disputed land and they used students to settle score with them.

Station House Officer Pattan Mir Saleem confirmed to CNS that an FIR has been lodged against the owners of SSM College for involving students in a private dispute. He claimed that not a single student sustained injuries. “We exercised maximum restraint though students resorted to massive stone-pelting,” he added.

SSP Baramulla Mir Imtiyaz Hussain said there is a stay on the disputed land while court has strictly ordered Police maintain status quo.(CNS)
