Ganderbal Dec 09: In view of the surge in crime against women and to spread awareness among masses about the legal aspects of rights of women, crime against women/girls, Police in collaboration with Special Cell for Women Ganderbal organized an awareness programme at PS Kheer Bhawani.

                   The programme was organised on the directions of SSP Ganderbal Shri Nikhil Borkar-IPS and chaired by DySP Hqrs Ganderbal Shri Gh Hassan-JKPS. On the occasion, Sr. PO Smt. Nadish, DySP (P) Smt. Ruksana Chowdhary, SHO PS Kheerbawani, officers of other civil departments and social activists were also present. A huge gathering of locals including women participated in the programme.

          During the programme, a panel of speakers delivered elaborated lectures on the topic of sexual harassment at work places, domestic violence, human trafficking etc. They said that women have been victims of the humiliation, exploitation and torture by the men on different counts and rapes and brutal murders have been so common nowadays. The speakers deliberated upon the participants to encourage the victims in case any report comes to surface in their respective areas. A detailed awareness about laws and provisions related to abuse of women, female foeticide and infanticide have been imparted to the participants.

The chairing officer also advised the participants to come forward with their problems/grievances instead of being victim of bad characters. He assured them that the police is committed for the security/protection of general public, particularly women folk. Moreover, it was also brought to the notice of participants that the Police has set up a Women’s Cell in District Ganderbal that can be approached for any kind of assistance. The participants were assured that the identity of the victim would be kept secret. Besides, the participants were also made aware about the JK-eCOP android application launched by J&K Police to get emergency services. They were advised to download the application from play store for almost all police related issues like lodging complaints (FIR), viewing an FIR, giving information, reporting traffic violation, seeking emergency help, etc.
