Kulgam Sept 28 : A gang of burglars was busted by police on Thursday in south Kashmir’s Kulgam district and recovered stolen goods worth lakhs of rupees from their possession.the police said that they recovered stolen property worth 10-12 lakhs of rupees after busting a gang of seven burglars, who were involved in several burglary cases.

On reception of several complaints about burglary in the areas of Police Station Kulgam, two cases under FIR No. 131/2023 and FIR No 165/2023, with relevant sections of law were registered. Later, a special team was constituted under the supervision of SP Headquarters Kulgam Ghulam Muhammad Bhat to investigate the incidents of burglary, police said in a statement.

“During the course of investigation, one suspected person, Ayan Shameem son of Mohammad Shameem Halwai, a resident of Bijnor Uttar Pradesh, presently at Rangrezpora, Kulgam was called for questioning,” police said, adding that the questioning resulted in his confessing of burglaries along with other six persons in the district.

The other six burglars have been identified as Shahid Sheikh son of Mohammad Jasim Sheikh, a resident of Delhi A/P Srinagar; Farman Ahmad son of Hanif Ansari, a resident of Bijnor, UP; Mohammad Amir son of Mohammad Yameen, a resident of UP; Bhar Alam son of Mani Ahmad, a resident of UP; Mudasir Habib son of Habibullah Mir, resident of Shalipora Sopore and Shabir Ahmad Bakerwal son of Mushtaq Ahmad Bakerwal, a juvenile.

“All the persons were brought to Kulgam police station where they confessed that they were involved in multiple burglaries and were subsequently arrested. The investigating team headed by SHO PS Kulgam were also able to recover stolen property worth lacs. The investigation in the matter is in progress as more arrests and recoveries are expected,” added police in the statement.
