 January 28: Police in its recent action against drug dealings in Kulgam have arrested five drug peddlers & recovered contraband substances from their possession. Besides, cash amount of ₹ 2,26,450 was also seized.

 Officers at a checkpoint established at Vessu Chowk intercepted two vehicles bearing registration numbers JK13E-2886 (i-10 Car) & PB06K-2297 (Truck) with five persons on board. They have been identified as Imtiyaz Ahmad Bhat resident of Naina Batapora,  Angez Singh resident of Oochra Ramban,  Lalchand resident of Shamchurasi Hoshiyarpur, Ghulam Mohd Lone resident of Wupzan Bijebhara and  Salim Mohd resident of Marelkotla.  During checking, officers were able to recover 2Kg of Charas, 30Kg of Poppy Straw, 13 bottles of illicit liquor and cash of Rs. 1, 61,450/- from their possession. Among the accused persons, one  person namely Ghulam Mohd Lone managed to escape from the spot and efforts are on to effect his arrest. The  four accused persons have been arrested and shifted to PS Qazigund where they remain in custody. Both the vehicles used in commission of crime have also been seized.

 Accordingly, a case vide FIR number 14/2021  under relevant sections of law stands registered at Police Station Qazigund and further investigation has been initiated.

 In another action, Police party from PS Qazigund at a checkpoint established at Drien Qazigund intercepted a suspicious person identified as Javid Ahmad Bhat resident of Naina Sangam. During checking, officers were able to recover 08Kgs of Poppy straw and cash amount of Rs 65,000/- from his possession. He has been arrested and shifted to Police Station Qazigund where he remains in custody.

 Accordingly, case FIR No. 16/2021 under relevant sections of law has been registered in Police Station Qazigund and investigation in the matter has been initiated.

 Community members are requested to come forward with any information regarding drug peddlers in their neighbourhood. Persons found indulging in drug peddling will be dealt as per law.

 Our consistent actions against drug peddlers should reassure the community members that we are making efforts to keep our society free from the scourge of drug menace as reiterated in our community meetings.
