Srinagar, March 20:Police on Sunday said that acting tough against social crimes, they have arrested four gamblers and seized stake money from their possession.

A statement issued to GNS, the police said that acting on specific information, a police party from Police Station Baramulla raided a gambling site at Kanthbagh, Baramulla following inputs about gambling activities and apprehended 04 gamblers. They have been identified as Mudasir Ahmad Yatoo son of Gh Nabi Yatoo resident of Kanispora, Ab Ahad Tantray son of Ab Aziz Tantray resident of Kanthbagh, Rayees Ahmad Sheikh son of Khazir Mohammad Sheikh resident of Seelo Sopore and Mukhtar Ahmad Hajam son of Alam Hajam resident of Anderkote Sumbal.

According to statement, the Officers have seized stake money of ₹ 14,500/- and playing cards from the gamblers. They have been shifted to police station where they remain in custody.

Accordingly, a case under relevant sections of law has been registered in Police Station Baramulla and further investigation has been initiated, they said.

Persons found indulging in criminal activities shall be dealt as per law. Community members are requested to share information regarding the crimes in their neighbourhood with the local police units, reads the statement.(GNS)
