Srinagar, Feb 5 : Even after police arresting three members of a family, the relatives and family members of a woman who was found dead at the home of her in-laws demanded arrest of all family members. They said that police have arrested only 3 persons including the husband of the deceased women while her mother-in-law and two sister-in-laws are still free.

The relatives and family members of the deceased woman who hail from Laharwalpora area of North Kashmir’s Bandipora district assembled here in Press Enclave Srinagar and staged a massive protest demanding arrest of all culprits responsible for the murder of Afrooz Bano.

Abdul Rehman Matahanji, the father of the deceased woman told News Agency KNT that his daughter namely Afrooza Bano (25) who was married to one Shabir Ahmad Pahloo son of Nazir Ahmad Pahloo of Sadarkoot Payeen Bandipora has was killed by her husband on 21 December last year.

The protesters who raised slogans against police alleged that Afrooza was murdered by her in-laws while police arrested only three members of the family. “We demand the arrest of all family members who killed Afroza in cold blood,” they said accusing police of inaction.

The said Afroza was murdered over and issue related to dowry.

When contacted, a police official while divulging information about the case told KNT that murder took place during the intervening night of 20 and 21 December, 2020.

He said during the course of investigation the role of one Shabir Ahmad Pahloo, the husband of the deceased woman surfaced, and a search was launched to nab him. After strenuous efforts, the accused person was arrested and during questioning, he admitted that during the intervening night the duo was engaged in a brawl over Mehar and golden ornaments and he strangulated his wife to death.

“It was a murder case and guilty have already been booked under relevant sections of law,” the official told KNT.
