May 13, Mobile Internet service continued to remain shut in south Kashmir’s Pulwama, Shopian and Awantipora police districts for 8th straight day on Wednesday.

The authorities snapped mobile network, except BSNL postpaid service, and suspended mobile internet service on May 6 following a gunfight between militants and government forces in Beighpora Awantipora.

While the mobile phone service was restored Monday night, mobile Internet service continued to remain suspended for the 8th consecutive day.

The suspension of 2G internet service by the authorities has left people in distress for whom it was the only mode of communication and information amid the Covid19 lockdown.

A senior police official told Rising Kashmir that the Internet service was blocked in the area as a precautionary measure. However, he assured that the service will be restored very soon. “We are checking the situation and the service will be restored very soon,” said the official.
