SONAMARG, JUNE 11:A massive wildfire erupted on Wednesday evening in the dense forest stretch of the Gadibal area near Fish Point, Sonamarg, triggering widespread concern over its potential toll on the region’s delicate ecosystem.

Fanned by dry conditions, the flames swept swiftly through the forested landscape, reducing vast expanses of green cover to ashes and sending thick plumes of smoke billowing across the valley skyline.

Divisional Forest Officer (DFO) Ganderbal, Iqbal Rasool (IFS), told Kashmir News Zone that forest department staff have been working round-the-clock to contain the inferno.

”The fire has been brought under control from two flanks. Our staff is putting in relentless efforts on the ground. It will likely take another two to three hours to fully douse the remaining flames” he said.

Braving suffocating smoke, scorching heat, and treacherous slopes, the forest personnel are using every available resource to stop the fire from spreading further into adjoining forest zones.
