Srinagar: Acting upon complaints from residents, the Lakes And Waterways Development Authority (LAWDA) on Saturday sealed wine shop operating in Dalgate area.

According to local residents despite LAWDA sealing the wine shop for violating norms in November this year, the same wine shop was still operating illegally.

Residents were demanding permanent closure of the wine shop in the area.

“The authorities are not taking any action the illegal functioning of this wine shop. If the LAWDA will not act we will burn the shop into ashes,” said Mohammad Subhan, a local.

He said that youth are our future and we do not want to spoil them with alcohol which is the mother of all diseases.

Another resident, Mohammad Iqbal said that due to political influence, the shop was again opened.

“We demand a complete ban on the sale of alcohol in the Kashmir valley, if the ban can be implemented in Bihar why not in our state Jammu and Kashmir,” he asked.

He said that Alcohol abuse is the biggest controversies in the world today and we request to the state government to take concrete steps to ban sale and purchase of alcohol in Kashmir.

However, Vice-Chairman of the LAWDA, Hafeez Masoodi told Rising Kashmir that illegal wine shop has been sealed within no time and LAWDA deputed its enforcement teams to seal the shop.

Hafeez said strong action would be taken against the violators, “These things would not be tolerated in future,” he added.

later, LAWDA Law Enforcement Officer Sohail Hussain Reshi confirmed that shop was illegally operating in the area from last few days and was sealed again.

“Around 3.30 PM we sealed the whole shop with iron roads and action would also be taken against the wine shop owner,” he said.
