Shopian: The Father of two minors girls who went missing on May 25 is among the Militants killed in a late-night encounter in the Nowpora area f Shopian district in South Kashmir.

As per the Locals, who spoke to The Kashmiriyat, Majid Iqbal aged 30, a son of Mohammad Iqbal Bhat of Nowpora in Imamsahib area of South Kashmir’s Shopian district left his house on May 25.

Majid worked as a labourer and also had a load carrier. “On May 25, Majid left his home as usual for work but didn’t come back to his after which the family tried to to contact him but his phone was off and his friends and relatives were contacted but all efforts to trace him failed” a local said.

The family has lodged a missing report at concerned police station.

Iqbal was the lone bread earner to the family that comprises of his parents, wife, a 13-year-old brother, a sister. Iqbal is also a father to six-year-old son, Ayaan Majid and a three- year-old daughter.

On Sunday evening, A Joint team of Police, Army’s 34 RR and CRPF launched a Cordon and Search Operation (CASO) on specific information about the presence of militants in the Check e Sidiq Khan area of Shopian. An official told The Kashmiriyat that as the joint team of forces approached towards the suspected spot, the hiding militants fired upon them, which was retaliated, triggering an encounter.

Two militants including a top Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT) commander were killed during the encounter between government forces and militants.

The official said that the militants turned down repeated surrender offers given to them by government forces, adding that a top commander of LeT is among the slain, however, further identification was not immediately known.

Meanwhile, as a precautionary measure, the mobile internet services have been suspended in the South Kashmir district.
