Baramulla 28 July【KNZ: An indoor stadium with state-of-the-art gymnasium was  constructed by the Army under its ‘Operation Sadbhavana” at Baramulla district in north Kashmir, the indoor stadium complex was half completed in 2001 and the project was suspended thereafter due to inadequate resources and funds from the Sports Authority of India (SAI).

The project was then taken over by the Army’s Daggar Division, based in Baramulla, in 2006. The partially built structure was repaired and upgraded with all facilities of a modern indoor stadium.

The complex, named as Jhelum stadium, has a badminton court with high quality wooden flooring, table tennis area, complete gymnasium, store-room, changing rooms for men and women. These facilities in the stadium had given an impetus to the sports activities in Baramulla district and promote sports culture in the region.

But now with the passing of every second the stadium is getting into the dark era, as there is no attention payed by the government for its maintenance and further development.

While talking with the sportsperson of jehlum stadium he said that stadium is being neglected by the government as it lacks proper sanitation and ground related problems.

He added that recently Wahid ur Reham Para had visited the stadium and had assured to provide these facilities but they proved to be a hoax as no action was taken in this matter.

‘If our demands are not fulfilled within the stipulated time we are going to protest along with our locals’, he added.【KNZ】
