Jammu, Jul 18 (KNO): In a first, night flight services are going to start from Jammu airport, for which the airport management has completed all the preparations, official said here on Sunday.

An official told the news agency—Kashmir News Observer (KNO) that expansion and lighting of the runway for night landing at Jammu airport has been completed. “There was a slight delay in this work due to COVID. However, all other necessary works will be completed by July 23.”

He said that after the resumption of service, Jammu Airport will become first airport in the division, from where night air service is going to start. “This will provide convenience to the people of the state as well as to the tourists.”

The official said that the night flight service is proposed to start for July 23 and GoAir airline has proposed to start the first flight to National capital Delhi.

“To accommodate the night flights, runway has been extended to 8000 feet for existing 6700 feet. Along with this, instrument landing system has also been installed at the airport, due to which visibility will be up to 800 meters instead of 1200 meters in bad weather,” he said.

Meanwhile, Union Minister, Dr Jitendra Singh also confirmed the operations of much-awaited night flight from Jammu on his official Twitter handle.

“News that should bring Cheer to all. After our constant persuasion for the last 5 years, it has been decided to operate a late evening Air Flight between #JAMMU and #DELHI, most likely from Friday, 23rd July. #GoAir has agreed for it,” he Tweeted.

He also thanked the Prime Minister Narendra Modi for being ‘“generous” to Jammu and Kashmir.

Notably, night flights from Jammu to prominent destinations of the country was one of the major demands of the people.

The official said that as the runway expansion work is almost complete, the night flight operation will likely commence within days from the Jammu Airport—(KNO)
