Baramulla, 11 Dec (KNZ):Acting on persistent complaints from residents regarding illegal excavation in the Wagila Wagoora area of Kreeri, the District Mineral Office (DMO) Baramulla on Thursday carried out a swift enforcement operation.
On the directions of DMO Baramulla, Er. Zulfikar Mohammad Shafi, a team was constituted and led by the concerned in-charge, with active support from the local police, to verify the complaints and act against the violators.
During the raid, the enforcement team found illegal excavation in progress and seized a JCB machine used for unauthorized extraction of minerals from the area.
Officials said the department has intensified field inspections to curb the growing menace of illegal mining, which poses threats to the environment and leads to loss of state revenue.
DMO Baramulla warned of strict action against anyone involved in illegal excavation, reiterating that such unlawful activities will not be tolerated and regular enforcement drives will continue across vulnerable locations in the district.KNZ
