Srinagar, 07 Feb: Cold conditions prevailed in Kashmir on Sunday as minimum temperature remained below the freezing point across the valley, even as weather is likely to remain mainly dry till 18 February.
Srinagar, summer capital of Jammu and Kashmir, recorded a minimum temperature of minus 3.6 degrees Celsius, a drop of 4 degrees over the last night.
The minimum temperature had stayed above the freezing point from last 3 days due to dense cloud cover.
The mercury in Pahalgam tourist resort in south Kashmir also went down from the previous night’s low of minus 6.3 degrees Celsius to settle at a low of minus 7.5 degrees Celsius.
Gulmarg in north Kashmir, recorded a low of minus 6.5 degrees Celsius, up from the previous night’s minus 10.4°C.
The mercury in Qazigund – the gateway town to the valley in south Kashmir – settled at a low of minus 6.3 degrees Celsius.
The night temperature in Kokernag, in south, and Kupwara, in north, settled at a low of minus 5.4 and minus 3.7 degrees Celsius respectively.
Bhaderwah town was the coldest recorded place in the Jammu region with a low of minus 0.1 degrees Celsius, followed by Batote in Ramban district at 5.0 degrees Celsius.
Jammu city recorded a minimum temperature of 6.8 degrees Celsius, 3 notches below normal during this part of the season.
Katra, which serves as the base camp for the pilgrims visiting Vaishno Devi shrine in Reasi district, recorded a low temperature of 7.4 degrees Celsius.
Kashmir Weather, an independent weather forecaster, has forecast mainly dry weather till 18 February with improvement in night temperatures from tomorrow under the influence of a weak Western Disturbance.
