Baramulla: Taking cognizance of a viral video of harassment of street vendors in Baramulla, the administration in Baramulla suspended four employees and attached them to Directorate Urban Local Body Kashmir.

The development comes hours after the administration directed Municipal Council Baramulla to recover the losses suffered by vendors in Baramulla from the concerned erring staff, the MC.

Yesterday, a video had gone viral on social media, where the employees of Municipal Council Baramulla were seen destroying the items being sold by the street vendors on their vending carts in Baramulla.
Taking cognizance of the viral video clips streamed on social media and adhering to the directions of worthy Director, Urban Local Bodies Kashmir conveyed, the following involved officials are hereby placed under suspension with immediate effect and attached to the Office of Directorate of Urban Local Bodies Kashmir Habitat Centre Bemina Srinagar, the order issued by the office of the Municipal Council Baramulla reads.

The officials include Sheikh Sajad Parvaiz, Faizan Akbar Zunga, Sajad Ahmad Khanday and Nazir Ahmad Bhat.

Earlier, taking note of the behaviour by the employee of MC Baramulla, Directorate of Urban Local Bodies Kashmir issued an order referring to the viral video. The order was issued to the Executive Officer Municipal Council Baramulla.

A video clip was circulated on social media wherein the employees of Municipal Council Baramulla were seen destroying the Items being sold by the street vendors on their vending carts. The scene was quite painful as the concerned staff of the Municipal Council has acted inhumanly with the street vendors, the order reads.

“These kind of practices ore bringing bad name to the MC in particular and deportment as a whole. I am conveying serious displeasure on this action of the Municipal Council Baramulla”, the order reads.

“You are therefore directed to recover the losses suffered by these vendors from the concerned erring staff involved in such inhuman act and compensate the vendors accordingly. Besides, all the concerned staff involved in the brutal action shall immediately be placed under suspension and relieved to this Directorate by today and a detailed report in the matter be furnished to this Directorate through return mall”, the order reads.

It is pertinent to mention here that yesterday MC Baramulla employees were caught on video harassing and toppling the carts of street vendors in Baramulla drawing criticism from the public.
