Ganderbal: There is a wave of concern among the people about the increasing number of thefts in different areas of Gund Tehsil of Central Kashmir’s Ganderbal district.
According to the reports, Thieves have managed to strike 10 vehicles from different areas of Tehsil Gund including Gund, Kullan and Gagangir from year 2014 to 2021 and not a single vehicle has been recovered, which has caused a wave of concern among the people.

Owners of stolen vehicles including Muhammad Yousuf Bhatt of Rezan, Fayaz Ahmed Lone of Ravil, Showkat Ahmad Naik and other owners told this reporter that on March 15, 2015, thieves stole Showkat Ahmed Naik’s Tata Somo bearing registration number JK01P 0692, while on March 23, 2021 thieves stole police Official Habibullah Lone’s Alto car JK16A, 3713 and on March 23 in Gagangir Bashir Ahmed Lone’s Alto car 6301 JK16A. On the intervening night of 19th and 20th November, thieves blew up Abid Nabi Raina’s Alto 800 car under number JK16A 8988 while on the same night in Ravil Gund, thieves also blew up Shamim Ahmed Malik’s Alto car under number JK16B 1964.
In the year 2018, thieves strike i20 vehicle JK05B 2566 of a medico namely Dr Hakeem from the premises of Primary Health Center Gund . In the year 2014 burglars decamped with Tavera JK16 , 5682 from rayil ,two Sumo JK05B, 2566 and JK5B 7227 from Gagangir Gund. Similarly on 9 November of this month buglars managed to decamp a Maruti 800 JK01K 6882.
On 9th November, a Maruti car with registration number 6882, JK01K, while on 7th July, 2014, thieves blew up a Tata Somo under number 7227JK5B in Gagangir.
Different FIR’s have been lodged in Police station Gund in all these thefts, but the police have not recovered any of the stolen vehicles till date, which has led to a steady increase in the number of thefts and lot of concern has been caused among the general public.

Meanwhile, thieves have decamped with three vehicles in Gund , Rayil and Kullan this month, after which SSP Ganderbal Nikhill Borkar ,SDPO Kangan Syed Yasir Qadri have launched a massive investigation into the matter and are trying to nab the thieves. The Naka has also been intensified and a barricade has been set up in Gund during the night.

The owners of stolen vehicles have strongly demanded SSP Ganderbal and SDPO Kangan to take further steps to nab the thieves.
