Budgam, Mar 24 : After seizing walnut wood from a truck, authorities have imposed penalty on a violator in Khag area of Central Kashmir’s Budgam district.

Sources told KNT that a team led by Naib Tehsildar Khag seized a truck (JK02W/3211) at Hamchipora that was loaded with walnut wood. Upon enquiry, it came to fore that one Ghulam Muhammad Wani son of Abdul Aziz Wani, a resident of Hamchipora, has cut down some walnut trees illegally.

“Office of the Executive Magistrate 1st Class Khag had issued sanction for cutting down only one tree, but the man violated the order and chopped down more walnut trees. Accordingly, Rs 45,000 fine was imposed upon the violator under the Jammu and Kashmir Preservation of Specified Trees Act, 1969 and the money was remitted in Government Treasury office Khag,” said an official to KNT.
