Srinagar, Feb 1: The Basantgarh Valley in Udhampur, Mahore in Reasi district, and Gulmarg transformed into breathtaking snowy landscapes as the season’s first snowfall painted them white.

Srinagar, the heart of Jammu and Kashmir, also got its share of snow, creating picturesque scenes.

Despite heavy snowfall, the Baramulla-Banihal train service in Jammu and Kashmir continued its operations, showing the dedication of the railway ministry, said Railway Minister Aswini Vaishnaw.

However, the Jammu-Srinagar National Highway faced closures due to road damage caused by snowfall, as reported by the Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) National Highway.

The winter disruptions extended to the Mughal Road, connecting Poonch and Rajouri districts to Srinagar, which had to shut down for vehicular traffic due to heavy snowfall. Even the Mata Vaishno Devi Temple in Katra received a fresh coat of snow, enhancing the tranquility of the sacred site.

According to the India Meteorological Department (IMD), heavy rain and snowfall are expected in the mountain regions of Himachal Pradesh, Jammu and Kashmir, and Uttarakhand in the coming days due to a western disturbance. This weather pattern may also affect plain areas like Haryana, Delhi NCR, and Uttar Pradesh.–(News18)
