BANDIPORA, NOVEMBER 25: The Block Diwas/Youm e Block, a part of ambitious Jan Abhiyan programme was observed today in all the blocks of Bandipora district, during which officers listened to public issues, grievances and demands.

The Block Diwas was observed to take appraisal of local issues from the general public for accurate and on ground assessment and redressal of the same thereby providing governance to the public at their door steps.

Deputy Commissioner Bandipora Dr Owais Ahmad attended the Block Diwas at Mini Secretariat and interacted with the public as part of the Block Diwas besides reviewing the developmental activities taking place in the block.

He was accompanied by Additional District Development Commissioner Afsar Ali Khan, Assistant Commissioner Development Abdul Rasheed Dass, Joint Director Planning Imtiyaz Ahmad, BDC Chairpersons, Sarpanchs and other senior officers of the district.

Dozens of delegations besides scores of individuals called on the Deputy Commissioner and apprised him about the problems faced by them in day to day life including that of roads, water, electricity, Healthcare services, Education, Agriculture, Irrigation, Sports and other individual issues. The delegations include representatives of Panchayat Raj Institutions.

DC Bandipora gave patient hearing to the delegations and passed on-spot directions for redressal of their grievances. While interacting with the people, DC Bandipora said conducting of public outreach programmes provides an important feedback for the government to tailor its interventions for the public good and reach to the doorstep of the people instead of them visiting the corridors of power in secretariat or other government offices.

He said that public outreach programmes are an important part of effective governance and it takes every step to reach out to the people in their own localities. Dr Owais said that the grievances registered by the people are being tracked personally and the grievance redressal mechanism is being monitored by the government.

District Development Commissioner Bandipora Dr Owais said all the developmental activities are being monitored and it is being ensured that the ongoing works are completed on time.

At Gurez and Sumbal, Sub Divisional Magistrates listened to the public grievances and got the first hand appraisal of the public issues.
