Leh, October 06:The Central Bureau of Communication (CBC) Ministry of Information and Broadcasting, Government of India today organized an Integrated Communication and Outreach Programme (ICOP) as part of the ongoing Swachhata Hi Seva campaign at Government Boys Higher Secondary School (GBHSS), Leh.

More than two hundred students of the school and entire teaching and non-teaching staff participated in the programme.

Addressing the gathering, Principal GBHSS Smt Tsewang Dolma thanked CBC for choosing their school as a venue. She requested the students to take care of their surroundings and make every effort to ensure that they keep their surroundings clean.

She further said that programmes and awareness drives will keep on happening but every individual should treat cleanliness as a year round mission so that it does not get restricted to a certain period or phase.

State Mission Manager, Municipal Committee Leh, Ms Fariha Yousuf also addressed the students and said that the zeal to maintain cleanliness should come from within an individual. She stressed upon students to understand their roles and responsibilities when it comes to maintaining cleanliness around them.

Ms Yousuf also emphasised upon the importance of segregating waste at source and said that in the present times, waste is a resource that can lead to revenue generation if handled properly and with care. She said the waste, that is segregated can be of economic value when it is sent for recycling but when wastes of different types are mixed together, they become worthless and hazardous.

A ‘Swachhata Pledge’ was also administered to the students as part of the ICOP wherein they were encouraged to spread the message of cleanliness and spend two hours every week on activities related to cleanliness.

The programme also witnessed performances from Cultural and Traditional Society, Ladakh. The performances left the audience; spell bound and enthralled.

As part of the ICOP, a dustbin was donated to the school and the students took part in a cleanliness drive wherein they cleaned the surroundings of their school.

Earlier in the programme, Field Publicity Officer, CBC Leh, Aamir Amin Nowshahri, while welcoming the guests, thanked district administration Leh and the school authorities for helping conduct the ICOP at a short notice. He stressed upon students to make cleanliness their motto in life and also encourage others to do the same.
