Kupwara, Feb 1 : Due to slippery road conditions, multiple road accidents were reported across Kashmir.

In a fresh spell, twin districts of North Kashmir namely Baramulla and Kupwara recorded 1.5 inches of snow. Though due to fresh snowfall, a slight respite from chill was witnessed, however, slippery condition of roads is giving tough time to drivers particularly those Sumo drivers who are habitual of speeding up their vehicles.

A couple of videos are viral showing how uncontrolled vehicles are hitting pedestrians.

A young girl and a man died on Monday morning after an Alto car (HR51AU-7420) skidded off from the road at Kralpora Kupwara and felt down into the Nallah. Besides the death of the girl and the man, 3 others boarding on the said car were injured and shifted to hospital for treatment.

The deceased were identified as 19 year old Usma Iqbal Bhat and Muhammad Maqbool Bhat, both residents of Rashinpora. Those who were injured in the mishap were Bashir Ahmed Beigh, Asif Ahmed Bhat and Jabeena Begum, all residents of Rashinpora Kupwara.

In Kupwara district, a driver lost control over his Sumo vehicle and hit a pedestrian, injuring him critically.

Locals said that pedestrian access to sidewalks is limited due to presence of snow mounds along road sides. “Roads have been cleared at the expense of pedestrian spaces,” they told KNT.
