Ganderbal, Mar 13 (KNZ): Police on Friday inaugurated a Police Martyrs’ Volleyball Tournament at Chattergul in the Kangan area of Ganderbal district under the Civic Action Programme, officials said.

The tournament was inaugurated by Sub-Divisional Police Officer (SDPO) Kangan Rajeev Raina, accompanied by SHO Kangan Inspector Younis Ahmad Khan.

Speaking on the occasion, the SDPO highlighted the importance of sports in channelising the energy of youth towards constructive activities and keeping them away from social evils. He also paid tributes to police martyrs who sacrificed their lives in the line of duty.

Officials said 16 teams from different parts of Sub-Division Kangan are participating in the tournament, providing a platform for young players to showcase their talent and sportsmanship.

Local youth and members of the community attended the inaugural ceremony and appreciated the initiative by police to promote sports and strengthen police-public relations, they added.(knz)
