Pattan, Aug 20, KNT: Hundreds rallied against blasphemy remarks in North Kashmir’s Pattan town of Baramulla district on Thursday morning.

Sources told news agency KNT that hundreds of people participated in the twin protests. A protest was registered in Pattan Bazar while another surfaced from Nihalpora Pattan. A team led by SDM Pattan along with police stopped the protesters from entering Pattan market near Bilal Colony. He assured protesters that they will take up the matter with authorities and recommend stern punishment to those who hurt the sentiments of Muslim community.

Sources said that protesters carrying placards took to the streets in a large number demanding capital punishment for those fanatics of Reasi who used incendiary remarks against beloved Prophet (PBUH).

“These fanatics from Bharat Raksha Manch including Satpal Sharma and even the cable channel that aired that derogatory video should be punished without delay. The culprits should be booked under Public Safety Act,” said a protester Faheem Ahmed.

After the protest in the town, security was beefed up and barricades were created to restrict the movement of groups of people.

Pertinently, police have already arrested three extremists and a formal case has been registered against them. The three accused are Satpal, Deepak and Rohit.

The blasphemous remarks are triggering protests across Jammu and Kashmir.

SDM Pattan, Syed Faheem told KNT that protesters dispersed peacefully after assurance that matter will be taken up with the authorities. (KNT)
