Srinagar December 26: The NAFIS enrolment user training programme inaugural session, was conducted today on 26th Dec 2023 at District Police Lines Srinagar. DIG Crime J&K Shri Javaid Iqbal Mattoo-IPS joined the said training programme as Chief Guest.

Addressing the participants during the introductory speech DIG Crime J&K Shri Javaid Iqbal Mattoo-IPS emphasized the crucial role of fingerprints for law enforcement agencies during the course of investigation. He highlighted and advocated that NAFIS (National Automated Fingerprint System) serves as a PAN-India searchable database of crime and criminal related fingerprints which will readily help to identify the perpetrators of crime alongwith establishment of crimes against them by virtue of NAFIS related scientific evidence.

Other notable attendees during the inaugural session included Sh. Suhail Munawer- SSP (EOW Kashmir), Sh. Musadiq Basu, SP (CICE Kashmir), Nissar Ahmad Khoja, DySP (DAR) DPL, Srinagar, DySP Feroze Mohammad, Pvt. Secy. to DIG Crime J&K, Jagpal Sharma DySP, (F.P. Expert) IC NAFIS, CRB, Jammu.

Shri Ganesh Gajalwad and Sh. Dhananjay Jadhav fingerprint experts from CFPB/NCRB provided detailed familiarization/trainings regarding NAFIS application to all the participants followed with on spot resolutions to all the queries faced by enrolled NAFIS users on daily basis while working on NAFIS project at the end of each training session.

Both the NAFIS trainers/experts urged the participants to create a high-quality database of NAFIS, adopt the web-based NAFIS application, and incorporate the latest investigation skills in handling criminal cases.

The training programme is designed to equip participants with knowledge of fingerprint science, laws related to fingerprinting, Criminal Procedure Identification Act-2022 as well as digitization/processing of fingerprints in using NAFIS software. The whole workshop is being conducted under close liaison/co-ordination of Insp (C) Iftikhar Ahmad (Incharge CCTNS/NAFIS DPO Srinagar) and Insp. (EOW) Tasleem Ahmad Khan.
