Lawyers to continue strike till Qayoom’s return

Srinagar, Sep 15: Senior lawyer and High Court Bar Association president, Mian Qayoom was today questioned by NIA in New Delhi again, while lawyers continued their protest and strike on Friday.

Qayoom was summoned by NIA for questioning again today. Earlier this months, he was summoned to Delhi the NIA which is probing the alleged funding of Hurriyat leaders and businessmen for allegedly creating unrest in Kashmir.

Lawyers across the valley supported the program given by Kashmir High Court Bar Association and continued their protest and strike today.

The General Body of Bar Association met at J&K High Court here where they discussed the continuous questioning and harassment of their president by NIA at New Delhi.

A Bar statement said that all the members expressed their strong resentment and anguish over the continuous summoning of President to the NIA office at Delhi. It was decided that strike shall continue till the President Bar Association returns back from New Delhi.

The lawyers of District and Mufassil Bar Associations also continued their strike and abstained from court work. Lawyers came out in procession from High Court as well as from District Court Complex Srinagar, denouncing the continuous harassment of the Bar leadership, it said.

The Bar Association also conducted a remembrance meet in the memory of 13th martyrdom anniversary of Advocate Hussam-ud-din Ahmad, who was martyred on 15th of September 2004 by enemies of humanity.

Advocate Hussam ud din Ahmad was also among the founder members of Geelani lead Tehreek i Hurriyat. Hussam ud din Ahmad has played important role in the ongoing freedom movement his house was forcibly occupied by security forces while was in jail. After his release he along with his family was forced to migrate from Sopore.

His role and contributions were lauded his sacrifices in the ongoing freedom movement will be written in golden words., the statement said.
