Dr Abdul Hameed Fayaz was on Tuesday elected as the Ameer of Jama’at-e-Islami Jammu and Kashmir.

Dr Fayaz will replace Ghulam Muhammad Bhat who served the highest office of Jama’at for three years beginning in 2015.

The elections for the post were held today.

Dr Fayaz, a resident of Shopian in Southern Kashmir, is a doctorate in Urdu and has served Jama’at in various capacities besides also as its Secretary Generally from 2012 to 2015.

Known as a firebrand orator, Dr Fayaz has also previously held an important position of Nazim Aala of Islami Jamiat Talaba.

Presently he was serving Public Relation head of JeI.

Dr Fayaz was elected by 160 members of Majlis-e-Numayandan while every member represents 30 arkans of Jama’at.
