Kangan, June 2: Acting on the directions of the Deputy Commissioner Ganderbal and the Sub-Divisional Magistrate (SDM) Kangan, authorities launched a rigorous food safety inspection drive across various bakeries and food outlets in Kangan on Monday.
Led by the Food Safety Officer, the inspection team uncovered several violations of the Food Safety and Standards Act (FSSA), 2006. As a result, fines amounting to ₹6,000 were levied against Food Business Operators (FBOs) for failing to maintain basic hygiene and safety standards.
Speaking to Kashmir News Zone (KNZ), the Food Safety Officer stated, “Ensuring public health by enforcing food safety laws is a top priority. These inspections are essential for upholding quality and consumer trust.”
The team also issued stern warnings to violators, urging all shopkeepers to adhere strictly to food safety protocols to avoid harsher penalties in the future.
The drive has been widely appreciated by locals, who have called for more frequent checks to curb unsafe food practices and protect public health.
