Ganderbal, Mar 9 (KNZ): Police have seized two more vehicles allegedly involved in illegal extraction and transportation of minor minerals in Jammu and Kashmir’s Ganderbal district, officials said on Monday.
The vehicles were intercepted during routine patrolling in the jurisdiction of Police Station Ganderbal and were found transporting construction material without valid authorisation, in violation of the prescribed norms, they said.
Both vehicles were seized on the spot and the matter was subsequently taken up with the Geology and Mining Department, which imposed a fine under relevant provisions of law.
Police said the action was part of an ongoing drive against illegal mining in the district and reiterated their commitment to curb such unlawful activities that cause environmental damage and loss to the public exchequer. Officials also urged the public to cooperate with law enforcement agencies in protecting natural resources.(KNZ)
