Ganderbal 13th Sep:In a major breakthrough, Ganderbal Police have solved two livestock theft cases within days, recovering stolen sheep worth lacs and arresting three accused persons involved in the crime.
On 08.09.2025 and 11.09.2025, Police Stations Kheerbawani and Kangan received separate complaints from Jalal-ud-din S/o Abdul Salam R/o Kokagund Sehpora and Wahid Ahmad (Bakerwal) S/o Haji Noorani R/o Chadrakote A/P Hayan Kangan. The complainants stated that during the intervening nights of 03/04 and 05/06 September 2025, unknown thieves trespassed into their cowsheds at Kokagund Sehpora and Hayan Palpora and stole 37 sheep.
Accordingly, FIR No. 31/2025 at PS Kheerbawani and FIR No. 63/2025 at PS Kangan were registered under relevant sections of law, and investigation was initiated.
Acting swiftly on the directions of SSP Ganderbal Shri Khalil Ahmad Poswal-JKPS, special police teams were constituted under the supervision of DySP Hqrs Ganderbal and SDPO Kangan, led by SHO Kheerbawani Gulzar Ahmad and SHO Kangan Lateef Ahmad.
During the course of investigation, SHO Kheerbawani apprehended one suspect, Shabir Ahmad Bhat S/o Ghulam Qadir Bhat R/o Arigoripora Kangan. On sustained questioning, he admitted to having purchased 06 stolen sheep from Momin Bashir Ganie @ Sahil S/o Bashir Ahmad R/o Gundi Mohalla Sehpora, with the help of Basit Bashir S/o Bashir Ahmad and Hilal @ Huzaib R/o Pehlipora Safapora. Based on his disclosure, 06 sheep were recovered and he was arrested.
Further, accused Momin Bashir was also apprehended, and one vehicle bearing registration number JK04D-0256 used in the commission of crime was recovered.
Meanwhile, a police party of PS Kangan led by SHO Kangan arrested another accused, Gh. Nabi Dar S/o Mohd Akbar Dar R/o Ruhama Pulwama, from Pulwama and recovered 15 stolen sheep from his possession.
So far, 03 accused persons have been arrested and 21 sheep recovered in the two cases. Police said that further arrests and recoveries are expected in the coming days.
