Ganderbal, Dec 8 (KNZ):Police in Ganderbal have arrested two Srinagar residents and filed a charge sheet for illegally flying a drone inside a designated no-fly zone during the Amarnath Yatra 2025, officials said on Sunday.
According to police, the duo operated a drone over a strictly restricted stretch of the Yatra corridor, which had been notified as a no-drone zone as per Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) guidelines to safeguard pilgrims.
Officials said the drone was detected by security surveillance systems and neutralised using soft-kill measures to eliminate any security risk. Following the incident, Police Station Gund registered FIR No. 26/2025 under Section 223 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, and a probe was launched.
A technical team subsequently conducted a forensic analysis of the seized drone, retrieving operational data that helped identify the individuals involved. Based on the findings, police named the accused as Owais Muneer Khan, son of Muneer Ahmad Khan of Sanat Nagar, Srinagar, and Farooz Ahmad Nengroo, son of Abdul Rashid Nengroo of Munwarabad, Khanyar, Srinagar.
Officials said both men have been arrested, produced before the competent court, and formally charge-sheeted.
Further legal proceedings are in progress.KNZ
