Srinagar, Dec 3, KNT: The All Parties Sikh Coordination Committee has called for extending reservation benefits to the Sikh community in Jammu and Kashmir while stating that such benefits should be granted only once, either during education or government employment.
APSCC chairman Jagmohan Singh Raina said reservation must reach the genuinely deserving and should not become a lifelong entitlement. He said allowing individuals to avail benefits repeatedly defeats the purpose of affirmative action and undermines merit.
Raina said Sikhs in Jammu and Kashmir continue to be denied quotas despite being recognised as a minority under the National Minority Act, terming it a grave injustice. He also accused the ruling National Conference of double standards and demanded that the party explain the continued exclusion of Sikhs from reservation benefits.
The APSCC reiterated its demand for an expert committee to identify genuine beneficiaries and ensure fair distribution of reservation benefits. [KNT]
