Ganderbal Dec 19(knz): With weather forecasts indicating fresh snowfall, the Roads and Buildings (R&B) Division Ganderbal has been placed on high alert, prompting enhanced preparedness measures across the district to ensure public safety and uninterrupted traffic movement.
The preparedness exercise is being carried out under the supervision of Executive Engineer Er. Mohd Aarif, while the District Administration is closely monitoring the evolving weather conditions. On Friday, the Additional District Commissioner (ADC) chaired a high-level review meeting to assess preparedness and review arrangements in place to tackle any snowfall-related exigencies.
Officials said that nearly 508 kilometres of road network, spread across 18 stages of the Division, has been earmarked for snow clearance operations. To ensure smooth coordination, contact details of all contractors assigned snow clearance duties have been shared with the District Administration, and dedicated WhatsApp groups have been created for real-time updates and monitoring.
The R&B Division has placed its field staff on 24×7 standby, ready to respond at short notice. As per official directions, snow clearance machinery including JCBs, tractors and other mechanical and manual equipment has already been pre-positioned at vulnerable and priority locations to facilitate rapid deployment.
Speaking to the media, Executive Engineer Er. Aarif Mohammad Iqbal said all necessary arrangements had been put in place in anticipation of snowfall. “Our teams, machinery and manpower are fully prepared. Roads will be cleared promptly to minimise inconvenience to the public,” he said.
The R&B Division Ganderbal reaffirmed its commitment to maintaining road connectivity, assuring that snow clearance operations will begin immediately as and when snowfall occurs, in close coordination with the District Administration.(KNZ)
