Shopian Feb 09:Demonstrating its commitment to swift investigation and decisive action against crime, Police in Shopian have solved a theft case within hours of its registration, leading to the arrest of an accused person and recovery of stolen property.
On 08/02/2026, Police Station Shopian received a written complaint from Mohd Altaf Wani son of Ghulam Hassan Wani resident of Dashipora, Shopian, proprietor of a mobile shop namely M/S “Mobile World”, located at Hospital Road, Shopian. The complainant reported that during the intervening night of 07-08/02/2026, unknown miscreants broke into his shop and decamped with mobile phones and other mobile accessories. Accordingly, a case vide FIR No. 08/2026 under relevant provisions of law was registered, and investigation was taken up.
During investigation, leveraging technical inputs and sustained investigative efforts, the police team successfully traced and apprehended one accused identified as Umar Akbar Malik resident of Khasipora, Shopian. On his disclosure, 05 mobile phones, 01 tablet, 01 Apple Watch, and other mobile accessories were recovered from his possession and subsequently he was arrested.
During further investigation, it also came to know that one associate of the arrested accused, who is a juvenile, was also involved in the commission of the offence. In view of legal provisions, the identity of the juvenile has been withheld, and necessary action has been initiated as per the Juvenile Justice (Care and Protection of Children) Act. Further investigation in the case is underway.
