Srinagar, Dec 6: A newborn male body was found in a toilet of the maternity hospital of Sher-i-Kashmir Institute of Medical Sciences (SKIMS), Soura, on Saturday.
Sources told news agency Kashmir Dot Com (KDC) that the infant’s body was found by attendants inside one of the hospital toilets. The incident was immediately reported to the authorities.
Police reached the spot soon after and shifted the body for medico-legal formalities to determine the cause of death and other circumstances surrounding the case.
“A case has been registered and proceedings under law have been initiated. Further investigation is underway to identify those involved,” a police official said.
Hospital authorities said they are fully cooperating with the investigation and that CCTV footage and hospital records are being examined to trace the sequence of events leading to the incident.
